Who has the best chance in returning?
Introduction
Ok, this debate is simply regarding the likely hood of the following missing characters returning again. There’s a lot down there, so I put the names alphabetical order for you to read about the characters you want. Have fun...
Alex
Alex debuted in Tekken 2 with Roger. His move set wasn’t exactly popular, but it returned in Tekken 5 for the comedy effect; “he he a boxing kangaroo”. His move set now is ranked pretty highly in the tier list, and it’s being used more than ever before. But let’s face it Roger really has a lot of hate out there; too many think his design is already ridiculous, so I doubt Namco would want to bring old Alex back. What would be the point?
Verdict: Unlikely
Combot:
Debuted in Tekken 4, Combot was supposed to be a replacement for Mokujin. You know, I actually preferred him over Mokujin, but then again I’ve always been a big fan of robots. Anyway he really just was a break from Mokujin and an excuse to make a “new character” a long with Christie. However it may be possible that Namco could well give us a break from Mokujin again, and so I would not be surprised to see Combot or a Combot II in future Tekken instalments.
Verdict: Possibly
Devil Kazuya:
Devil Kazuya is still in the series, and has been sighted in Kazuya’s Tekken 5 prologue, meaning that he still plays a part in current Tekken affairs. This means he’s going to become playable again right? Well I have mixed opinions regarding that. First of all his appearances aren’t consistent, in Tekken 4 Kazuya indicated that he’d need to kill Jin Kazama in order to transform, which contradicted the Tekken 5 prologue shots. Second of all, he has a lot of moves that are now listed under Devil Jin’s move set or Kazuya Mishima’s , so namco would really need to give this character a total revamp if they wanted to bring him back. However Namco may want to hype us out with a Devil Kazuya vs Devil Jin moment, so we can’t rule his return out completely. Besides Kazuya is a popular character they bring back Devil Kaz to make him look “even cooler” next time.
Verdict: Possibly
Dr B
Oh no, this is the sort of “hilarious” characters Namco like to bring to the Tekken series. To cut it short I think there is a big possibility of him returning, revamped of course, especially since his daughter Alisa now plays a big role in the Tekken storyline with Lars, which does indicate that Dr B still has a role to play in the near future.
Verdict:
Likely
Gon
Ha Ha good one Namco...seriously though, the licenses and whatnot will make it hard to see Gon return.
Verdict: Unlikely
(Thank God)
Jinpachi
Jinpachi really is finished in my opinion; his moves were too “boss like” material anyway for him to come back as regular character. Before you mention, well what about Devil Jin? Could you really compare his cheap stuns to a lazer beam which has been severely toned down? I was never keen on this character to be honest, Heihachi’s father? Come on Namco!
Verdict: Very
unlikely
Jun
Jun debuted in Tekken 2, she is one of the only female characters to be given a strong storyline, but it didn’t stop there. You look at the Tekken 2 merchandise, and you could fill a whole wardrobe of Jun Kazama “stuff”. I also recently found out, thanks to Tekken Nation’s very own Shadi, that she had her very own licensed comic. Namco were either trying to build her up or she was very popular, either way she was removed after only one cannon game. Despite this, she still has her fair share of loyal fans, but is that enough to warrant a return? I’m afraid not, in fact I’m in confident in saying that she has the least chance of returning. Here are the following reasons why I believe this...
Jun Kazama is the Ben Parker of Spiderman, the Thomas Wayne of Batman. The character that got sacrificed in order for the main character to become what he is today.
Asuka is very popular with the fans and she has Jun’s move set. Most people out there now prefer Asuka over Jun, especially since she’s the one appearing in the cannon games and in the official comics. Had she been unpopular then, Namco may have been forced into brining Jun back, who knows.
Japan doesn’t like her; most of Jun’s fans come from western gamers. Jun Kazama is not popular in Japan. Her design would appear old fashioned and out dated in the Japanese entertainment today, with her type being replaced by more popular ones such as Asuka’s, Lili’s and Alisa’s.
Lars, ok now it appears that the Mishima feud is finally coming to a close. The storyline will take a new direction under lars, making Jun completely pointless to the plot.
Verdict: Very
Unlikely
Kunimitsu
Wait why was this character removed in the first place? Harada claimed she was unpopular, but having read through various Tekken forums, she’s always been demanded back in large quantity. Perhaps were facing another West vs. Japan thing again, who knows? But Harda did mention that he’d like to be proven wrong, thus logic will tell us that it won’t be long before he does find out that she is requested a lot in western forums, making her return likely.
In my opinion Kunimitsu has a fair chance, her move set already does differ to Yoshimitsu, and I can see them doing another Anna and Nina thing and bring her back.
Verdict: Likely
Michelle
Hmm another average aged woman vanishing, starting to see the pattern yet? Really though, I can’t see her coming back to be honest, and I don’t blame Namco for this. From what I’ve seen Michelle isn’t very popular among the Tekken fans at all. Second of all Julia not only seems to have taken her moves, but appears to have stolen her personality too (you know as the boring one of the series). Despite all this, she isn’t exactly dead, so she may have a chance, but I can’t see it.
Verdict: Unlikely
P. Jack:
Call me crazy, but I actually believe P. Jack has the biggest chance in returning. First of all history indicates that Namco aren’t afraid to have more than one robot in a game. Tekken 1, 2 had two while Tekken Tag had 3. P. Jack also did have some unique throws and moves that differ to the current Jack 6 model, and with Kazuya running G.Corp, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Prototype Jack be the first to return in the next Tekken game.
Verdict: Very
Likely
Ogre / True Ogre:
I’m not sure about this one, I can’t see him playable as a regular character again, but he may just come back as boss in a future game.
Verdict: Possibly
Unknown:
I never understood why Unknown was ever that popular, why was she? Anyway I won’t start that debate again, and I really can’t see her returning at all. Apparently she was supposed to be Jun’s little sister, but what goods that now when Jun won’t be coming back and the storyline has moved on? Besides she was just a mimic character, could we really give a big storyline for a mimic character? Namco will just stick to Mokujin, and possibly switch to Combot from time to time.
Verdict: Very
Unlikely
