BAEK DOO SAN'S STRATS
Baek Doo San

Author: NoodleHead
I wanna start the discussion on some of the setup starters, namely
d/f+1,3, FLA f+3, 2,3, etc. Let's focus on opponent's reaction after
blocking those moves, as well as the frame advantage when those attacks
land.
2,3 i10, b 0, h/CH +7
This
move is underused by most of Baek players. It's partly because of its
damage (or lack there of), or its attack range (h). Nevertheless, it's
one of the simplest moves that give almost unanimous response. On
block, opponent almost always either block, or low jab. On hit,
opponent almost always try and block the next hit.
Against
opponent who either block or low jab, u/f+2 is a good option. Luckily,
u/f+2 is now available in FLA, so 2,3 into u/f+2 (b+3, h+3 force crouch, CH +11)
when 2,3 either hits or blocked become one of the most useful staple.
For those who have not use u/f+2 much before due to its speed, this is
a great opportunity to use this attack.
In
addition, 2,3 into d/b+3,3~f yields even more + on hit. This is a "good
risk" (completely absent back in DR days lol) that you might wanna
experiment w/. As long as you can keep Baek + frame at each sequence,
your opponent will be stuck guessing each and everything you are to
deliver. ![[kaioken] [kaioken]](http://tekkennation.com/forums/images/smilies/kaioken.gif)
d/f+1,3 i13, b-1,+1, h+6,+7, CH +6,+13?
d/f+1
is now -1 for Baek to force Baek players to use d/f+1,3 more.
Unfortunately that "3" is a high, and people WILL grow accustomed to
duck it after seeing enough of it (3 comes out rather slow). However,
the delayed, telegraphic "3" can be used against your opponent by
applying d/f+1,d/f+1.
It's NC, so d/f+1,3 is a rather safe mid
option when you are looking for less risky FLA mixups. On CH, 1,2 is
guaranteed (proven by many). While we are still waiting for the answer
about d/f+1,3 into guaranteed 4,3, it's rather clear that d/f+1,3
should be used after some decent + attacks that don't seem obvious.
Whenever
you sense your opponent knows to duck the 3, mix w/ d/f+1 d/f+1. This
allows you to reverse their habit into block standing. If they resort
w/ d~1 to interrupt d/f+1 d/f+1 instead of blocking mid, try d/f+1 into
ssl~b+1 or ss 3+4. One of these will keep them honest.
FLA w/ +1 on block can be quite fun. FLA 2,3 for uninterruptable high,
d/b+1 for safe high crush, f+2 for quick and effective mid, d/b+4 if
you feel lucky.
FLA f+3 i21, b 0, h/CH KND
One
of another great moves that is introduced in T6/BR. The new properties
of this move is a god-sent. Back in the T6 wishlist, I had mentioned
the possibility of having a mid horizontal move that not only tracks,
but also revert back to FLA. The result of FLA f+3 in BR instantly
makes Baek n times more confusing! By itself it's not exactly the
fastest move, but speed isn't that important here because Baek's got
plenty of other moves that are fast. What this move delivers, is the
tracking power AND the post-block craziness. At 0 on block, this attack
RESETS opponent's option after they block the attack, indirectly
discourage their side-step game (which is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for Baek
players).
(more on block options, and hit options)
More to come, I will edit this post in the near future.
Summary:
-2,3 should be used more often, and u/f+2 post any result should be a viable option.
-d/f+1,3
should be used after some decent and not obvious +'s, such as 3+4~f.
Followups should be done after "teaching" your opponents to block both
d/f+1,3 standing.
